The Aria V2 is the lightest infant car seat on the market at just 6 lbs, and it includes a load leg (also called a stability leg) on the base. The Mesa V3 doesn’t have a load leg. If you carry the seat in and out of the car often, or you want extra crash protection from the load leg, the Aria is the better pick.

 The load leg is a steel post that extends from the base to the floor of your vehicle. In a crash it absorbs forward energy and prevents the seat from rotating. Independent crash testing consistently scores seats with load legs higher than seats without.

Most families start with the Mesa or Aria infant seat from birth and switch to the Rove convertible around 9–18 months.
